MindEdge's Learning Council

The MindEdge Learning Council is tasked with ensuring the relevance of MindEdge Learning's college and graduate courses and simulations. The Council is made up of higher education leaders with deep experience in learning methods, academic administration, and educating adult learners through new techniques such as online learning.


D. Quinn Mills (Chair). D. Quinn Mills, an educator and thought leader, has served as chairman of MindEdge, Inc. since its founding in 1998. Dr. Mills, who has taught at Harvard Business School and MIT's Sloan School of Management, consults with major corporations and governments and lectures on management, leadership, strategy, economics, and geopolitics. He is also an expert on the differences between Asian and Western leadership styles. His most recent books include Democracy and its Elected Enemies (Cambridge University Press, 2013), Shadows of the Civil War (MindEdge Press, 2014), and Global Economic Turmoil (World Scientific Press, 2015). Dr. Mills earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, both in economics. He received his undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Hap Aziz. Dr. Aziz is an educator, interactive experience designer, and academic technology visionary who provides strategic consulting services to higher education institutions and organizations that are committed to using technology in support of teaching and learning. He has worked extensively to invent new ways of providing compelling learning experiences while considering pedagogy through the lens of narrative, interactivity, and engagement. In the private sector, he has partnered with Disney, Sony, the Orlando Magic, and a variety of other companies worldwide to provide interactive software solutions for business and entertainment industry needs. In higher education, he has developed and launched individual online courses and degree programs in subject areas ranging from History to Mathematics; from 3D Animation to Cybersecurity. A founding member of the International Game Developers Association, Aziz launched the first game design degree program at Full Sail University, and he has designed, advised, and managed digital design, computer game, and technology programs at several higher education institutions. Currently, Aziz works with the IMS Global Learning Consortium as an evangelist for the Learning Tools Interoperability™ standards. Aziz holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Rollins College, an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University, and an Ed.D. in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Florida.

Jo Hamilton. Dr. Hamilton is a senior education strategy, design, assessment, and faculty development leader with a diverse background in global education consulting and public, private, and market-driven higher education institutions. Hamilton is the Executive Director of Digital Strategy, Design, and Development for Laureate Education's partnership with the University of Miami (UM). In this role, she oversees the overall program development relationship between Laureate and UM ensuring curricular innovation, timely execution, and academic quality as well as business results. She has broad expertise in all aspects of university strategic operations including academic operations, policies, and budgets; curricular program design, development, and continual improvement processes; and aligning curricula to meet the needs of high growth sectors in developed and emerging markets. She has held leadership positions with a Carnegie Mellon subsidiary, iCarnegie Global Learning, the University of Liverpool, Western Governors University (the first online competency-based university in the US), and Franklin University. Hamilton holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology from the Ohio State University, an M.B.A. from Atlanta University, and B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois.

Steven Klingler. Steven Klingler is an experienced business leader and innovator with a passion for helping people improve their lives through education and training. He was responsible for many breakthrough innovations at Western Governors University, where he served for five years on an advisory board and three years as the VP of Student Experience. He advanced adoption of modern pedagogy and learning science at Argosy University as the Vice Chancellor of the Center for Learning Innovation, and subsequently as Senior Vice President of Enrollment, Student Support, and Field Operations at The Princeton Review. Steve has also served the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a long time member of their Personalized Learning Network working group, as a grant reviewer and grantee mentor for the Next Generation Courseware Grants. He was a first-year member of the Lumina sponsored Competency Based Education Network (C-BEN), has conducted workshops for Next Generation Learning Challenge grantees, and has been a featured speaker at many conferences and convenings. Prior to his work in the education sector, Steve has enjoyed a successful career in business across multiple industries including online technology, enterprise software, retail, and consumer products. Steve holds an MBA from Brigham Young University, BS degrees in Finance, Marketing and Retail Management from the University of Phoenix, and a Certified Management Accounting credential from the Institute of Management Accountants.

Denise B. Wydra. Denise B. Wydra is an educational strategist and curriculum expert who has spent her career working to improve education. Currently, Wydra consults on strategy, instructional design, and content development with companies developing tools to support digital learning. Wydra has held a variety of leadership positions at education companies. Most recently, she was COO at Cognii, Inc., a cutting-edge technology company using artificial intelligence for better formative assessment. Prior to that, she was President of Bedford/St. Martin's, the preeminent publisher for higher education writing courses and the humanities, and then Vice President for Humanities at Macmillan Learning, a global education company. In these positions, she led collaboration with educators at dozens of leading colleges and universities to develop innovative learning solutions. Wydra has an A.B. in History and Literature from Harvard College and an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Brown University.

Jefferson Flanders. As President and Chief Executive Officer for MindEdge, Inc., Flanders has overseen the company's strategic and operational direction since 2005. An author and educator with a long-standing interest in how people learn and innovate, Flanders has led the company's narrative learning initiative, including the development of simulations and scenario-based instruction. He brings more than twenty years of experience in media and publishing to his role at MindEdge, including stints with Harvard Business School Publishing and the New York Times Company, where he served in varied management positions. Flanders has taught in New York University's Journalism Department, Boston University's School of Management, Babson College, and the American Press Institute. He is the author of two critically-acclaimed spy novels, Herald Square and The North Building. Flanders has an A.B. in History and Literature from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
